Opera Triptychon

One woman quarentin's story

Multimedia poem for screen and soprano by Natalia Hurst

WUK Wien |   Directing Consulting - Co Production

A woman in quarantine reflects on her relationship, different types of gender-based violence and the women's movement. It is an inner journey. The singing is accompanied by artful graphic motions. The interaction of different arts brings together especially girls, women* and seniors for a special experience.

The Opera Triptychon combines classical opera, contemporary multimedia elements and a critical and activist view of the role of women in classical opera.

The protagonist of "Mme Butterfly" is only 15 years old when she gives birth to the son of the officer who occupies her country. Zerlina in "Don Giovanni" asks Masetto to be beaten by him, in "Othello" there is a female murder and Pamina in "The Magic Flute" is on the verge of suicide due to psychological violence?

With "Opera Triptychon: One Woman quarantine's Story", Natalia Hurst wants to rethink opera. The aim is not to accuse, but to look at classical works from a new perspective.

In the subsequent audience discussion, the following questions will be asked: Is opera sexist? Is it possible to make an intergenerational reading in the face of current struggles?
